Buddhist Quote Martial Arts Love

Buddhist Quote Martial Arts Love is a new book that examines the process by which Buddhism combines with martial arts in order to achieve self-love, compassion, and inner strength. It blends Buddhist compassion, wisdom, and humility with the discipline of a warrior fighting in order to find peace.

Quotes from this viewpoint prompt people to strive for peace, overcome the ego, and blend strength with compassion. These insights are born of love and mindfulness, shaping a life that is full without being overstretched on or off the mat, as real mastery shows itself in one’s relationship to self and others.

The foregoing conclusion, lest readers charge, came from occasionally inconsistent statements made by the Buddha, and for the sake of fairness, I’d like to see anyone who has their life analyzed like the Buddha did not to say at least one inconsistent thing.

I guess he felt he couldn’t afford to make any kind of exception to his law of no violence, even the little bitty ones, because they bust out again in the weeds—no, not even the exception of defending oneself. But in his words to kings, it appears that he did value the life protection; he just couldn’t say it plainly.

Although it is dangerous to infer the mind of the Buddha (and although I don’t believe in doing so), I have no other alternative.

That somehow Buddhism can coexist with martial arts simply due to the fact that DEADLY force is NEVER allowed. Violence is only permissible in the minimal, so that violence can only be used at the minimum to prevent the violence being offered.

Such a minimalist stance on violence and violent confrontation does carry a higher level of risk for the martial artist; however, the reason for training is to be able to inflict the least amount of damage or hurt on one’s opponent as is humanly possible whilst at the same time being able to protect oneself from the violent attack.

Looked at another way, if two men are unclad and one is assaulted, it is impossible for him to both survive and do the minimum of violence to the man who attacked him. If you’re trained, however, then you can defend someone against a physically violent assault with the possibility, not guarantee, of not only surviving but also minimizing the damage done to the attacker.

In light of this, then, it seems to me that it is virtually incumbent upon a Buddhist to practice some martial art to help guarantee that they won’t kill someone should they ever be forced to protect themselves from a sustained life-threatening attack.
